How to Enter and Judging Criteria

Create a working app that meets the requirements and specifications described within one Challenge Vertical.

Apps will be explained and demonstrated by the team for the judging panel on May 23, 2015 at 6pm Hawaii Standard Time (HST).

Submissions will be judged on the following three criteria:

  1. Potential to positively impact Hawaii’s residents, visitors, and businesses, as relevant to each respective Vertical or Horizontal (25%)
  2. Quality of concept, including creativity, originality and commercial viability (25%)
  3. Implementation of the idea (including user experience and design) (50%)

  1. Can I Participate?


If you're a minor, please identify yourself upon sign-up as we will require parental or legal guardian consent to participate.

Individuals and Companies cannot post a Submission that has been publicly available for more than one year as of the Competition start date.

  1. When Do I Enter?

May 22, 2015 by approximately 6:00 PM Hawaii Standard Time (“HST”) (the “Competition Submission Period”). Administrator’s computer is the official timekeeping device for this Competition.

Demos begin May 23, 2015 6PM HST for the judging panel.

  1. Online Requirements:

Each Contestant will be required to provide the following as part of the Submission:

  • A link to their app/submission
  • A link to your submission profile on Challengepost including a declaration of which Vertical(s) you've chosen to pursue

After the Competition Submission Period has ended, the Submission cannot be modified in any way until after Judging has ended.

  1. Category Requirements:

The competition is organized around various “Verticals,” each associated with various prizes. At the time of drafting these rules, the three official Competition Verticals are yet to be determined:  EXAMPLES of potential verticals are 1) Data in Transportation, 2)Alternate modes of travel, 3)Parking, etc.

Submission Rights for Entrants:

Contestants will own the intellectual property rights to their Submission.

Display of Submissions

Submissions will be posted after the event on the website. All Contestants will have the same ability to view Submissions posted on the website.

Winner Selection

Submissions will be voted upon by a judging panel selected by the Organizers at their sole discretion. The judging panel will evaluate the Submissions on the criteria described within the pertinent Challenge Vertical AND “Challenge Brief,” available on the website. Then the finalists will be judged again by an expert judging panel, utilizing the criteria described within the pertinent Challenge Brief. The judging panel can be found on the website.
